In order to check sale of spurious cotton seeds, Maharashtra and Gujarat governments have submitted samples for testing at Central Institute for Cotton Research in Nagpur. So far we have received 20 samples of cotton seeds from Maharashtra and five samples from Gujarat for testing. We will test and analyse these samples, and would report our findings by next week,” the official said. Farm ministry has asked the Indian Council of Agricultural Research to probe the sale and planting of spurious cotton seeds in key growing states in the country. Sale of unapproved and fake cotton seeds has been reported from cotton growing states like Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra. Gujarat, Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are key cotton growing states in the country.
