Procurement of tur in Maharashtra could touch a record high of 500,000 tonne by the end of the state government market intervention programme. The state has procured 400,000 tonne of the pulse so far since the programme started in December. The state has allocated 10 billion rupees for the procurement and about 4 billion rupees worth of payments will be made in the coming days. India output of tur is estimated to rise 65.2% to 4.23 million tonne in 2016-17, compared with 2.56 million tonne the previous year. The total procurement by the state is around 25% of the current year output in the state.
