Prices of maize were unchanged today in the key wholesale market of Purnea, as bearish sentiment due to ongoing harvest was offset by low availability of good quality crop following rainfall in the last few days. About 4,000 tn of maize arrived in the market today, down from 6,000 tn the previous day. While the supplies are expected to increase, good quality crop is not available as rains have led to high moisture content in the grain. Crop with 16 or 18% moisture content is used by feed or starch industry but cannot be stocked.
