Minimum Support Price- Pulses in line with expectations

The Central government has announced the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of the Kharif crops for 2021-22 marketing season on June 9,2021. Rise in the MSP in pulses was in line with the market expectations. However, MSP for soybean was the second lowest in the entire commodity space.

Market participants were expecting soybean MSP to be increased to 4,200 and above from the previous year of 3,950 rupees. Already there is shortage of the oilseed in the country and the government aims to reduce the edible oil import bill. Is the miniscule increase in MSP of soybean still going to attract farmers to plant more this year ???
