Telangana government has procured 100,000 tn of rabi maize from farmers so far. The procurement began in mid-April and will continue till May 30. The state government is targeting procurement of nearly 500,000 tn maize in the current season. Telangana government is procuring maize from farmers to ensure fair returns to them as output in the state is estimated higher in 2017-18 (Jul-Jun). According to the government’s third advance estimate, Telangana is likely to have produced 1.04 mln tn maize in rabi season this year. In kharif, the production in the state is estimated at 1.6 mln tn.
