Though the arrival of paddy has picked up pace at Asia’s biggest grain market in Khanna, the quantity is low as compared to the last year, making it apparent that reaching the last year’s target will be difficult. This year, 4,53,980-quintal paddy has been purchased so far as while the last year’s purchase till October 16 was 2,487,810 quintal. Purchase agency ‘Pungrain’ had purchased 1,70,590 quintals, Markfed 65,140 quintals, Punsup 68,690 quintals, Warehouse 48,260 quintals, Punjab Agro 65,490 quinatls, apart from 35,810 quintals by private purchasers.
