Saudi Arabia completed negotiations with suppliers overnight for its tender to buy barley. The buying agency announced it had purchased just over 1.5 million tonnes of feed barley. And the contracts will specify optional origin- South America, EU, Black Sea and Australia. Australia shipment volume of barley in the 2016-17 marketing year was added by competitive pricing and reduced current year exports from EU, Argentina and Black Sea origins.

Futures contract of barley on the NCDEX were up 1% taking cues from the key spot market in Jaipur. The most-active April contract of barley on the NCDEX was 1%. Prices of barley rise in Jaipur on expectations of a rise in demand from malt industries due to onset of summer season. Arrivals of the new crop were estimated at 10,000 bags (1bag=85kg) compared with 15,000 bags. Lower arrivals, coupled with the rising demand from feed sector also supported barley prices.

Prices of barley extended gains in Jaipur due to increased demand from stockists and feed sector. Rise in demand from malt industries due to onset of summer season also lifted the prices of barley. Arrivals of the new crop were estimated at 18,000 bags (1bag=85kg) compared with 12,000 bags. Most-active April contract of barley on the NCDEX was up 0.5%.

Prices of barley fell in Jaipur because of a surge in arrivals and less demand from feed sector and stockists. Arrivals of the new crop were estimated at 15,000 bags (1bag=85kg) compared with 5,000 bags. Demand from malt industries was less due to high moisture content in the new arrivals, which weighed on barley prices. On the NCDEX the most-active April contract of barley was down 0.5%.

Japan would import 600 tonnes of barley for livestock use, via a simultaneous buy and sell (SBS) auction. The ministry had sought 200,000 tonnes of feed barley to be loaded by June 30 and arrive in Japan by Aug. 31 in the tender.

In Dec 2016 Romania exported 47 KMT of barley compared to the record shipments for this month observed in December 2015– 130 KMT and almost all December volume was shipped to Israel– 25.5 KMT and Syria– 13 KMT. Thus, the beginning of 2016/17 (July-December) Romania exported 722 KMT of barley, which was almost two times lower than over the same period last season (1401 KMT) due to the lower demand from key importers. Shipments decreased in all key export destinations. Saudi Arabia, Libya, Jordan and Tunisia lowered purchases, while shipments to Israel, Spain, Vietnam and Syria increased last season.

Barley prices in Jaipur hit a one-week low as arrivals of the new crop increased and demand from stockists and the feed industry was lacklustre. Arrivals of the new crop estimated at 7,000 bags (1bag=85kg) compared with 5,000 bags. Limited purchases from the malt industry also weighed on prices.
