Sugar production in Uttar Pradesh has hit a record high of 8.58 mln tn so far during 2016-17 (Oct-Sep). Mills across the state produced 8.58 million tonne of sugar during Oct 1-Apr 20, up 26.5% from a year ago. The production has also crossed the state expected output of 8.50 million tonne. The state had produced 6.78 million tonne sugar during the corresponding period a year ago. Mills in the state are likely to continue crushing till the end of April. Mills across the state have crushed 81 million tonne cane so far, compared with 63.97 mln tn in the year-ago period.
