Cotton Outlook sees 2017-18 US output at 10-year high of 4.5 MMT.

Cotton Outlook has pegged US cotton output in 2017-18 at a 10-year high of 4.5 mln tn, 100,000 tn higher from its estimate in August. Though adverse weather conditions in the US, including the damage from hurricane Irma, initially triggered some concerns of crop damage, the final output appears unaffected, the agency said. Cotton Outlook has also raised its estimate for India’s output in 2017-18 on the back of a ruse in acreage and better yields. India is likely to produce 38.5 mln bales (1 bale = 170 kg) of cotton this year, up 12% from a year ago. India farmers had sown cotton across 12.26 mln ha as of Thursday, up 19.3% on year.
