India Edible Oil: Most down; NCDEX soybean gains tracking CBOT

Futures contracts of most components of the edible oils basket, barring soybean, fell on the domestic exchanges on Friday.   Soybean futures on National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange settled 0.4% higher in line with gains key contracts on Chicago Board of Trade.
Soybean on Chicago Board of Trade gained due to US President Donald Trump’s indication of easing Sino-Washington trade war after a recent dialogue with his Chinese counterpart.  The US is the world’s top grower and China is the world’s top importer of the oilseed. Unlike the trend in soybean, refined soy oil contracts on NCDEX and crude palm oil on the MCX fell due to poor demand at higher price levels in the wholesale markets, analysts said. However, strength in crude palm oil on the Malaysian exchange limited any sharp fall on the MCX. Futures contracts of crude palm oil on Bursa Malaysia Derivatives ended slightly higher today, on bargain buying by investors after prices fell sharply over the last two sessions, analysts said.
The most-active January contract on the Malaysian bourse ended at 2,152 ringgits (37,478.19 rupees) per ton, up 8 ringgits from the previous close.  Prices had fallen to an over three-year low of 2,108 ringgits during early trade today on concerns of growth stocks of palm oil in Malaysia.
Reports of declining exports from the south-east Asian country also weighed on prices. Futures contracts of mustard ended lower on NCDEX due to improved supply of oil and oilmeal in the market following rising in crushing by the oil-millers, analysts said. Mustard oil mills across the country crushed 600,000 ton of the oilseed in October, up 33.3% from a year ago, according to data compiled by the Mustard Oil Producers Association of India.
