India maize prices rise on lean supply.

Maize prices in key spot markets continued their upward momentum because of a gradual tapering of supply. In Davangere, Karnataka, maize was sold at 1950 rupees per 100 kg, up 10-15 rupees. Arrivals were pegged at 1,500 bags (1 bag = 100 kg), down 200-300 bags from the previous day. Maize prices in Purnea, Bihar, also rose 10-15 rupees, while arrivals plunged to 250-300 bags from 500 bags. In Nizamabad, Telangana, maize prices were at 1,970 rupees, up about 20 rupees. Arrivals were pegged nearly 500 bags lower at 900-1,000 bags from the previous day. Davangere prices are likely to rise going ahead because of expected better demand from feed manufacturers, who are likely to aggressively purchase maize on anticipation of lean stocks of the khairf crop.
