India plans its own cotton brand, to revise technology mission .

India plans to launch its own brand of cotton, following the success of branded cotton from Egypt and the US, aiming to fetch premium prices in the export market and to also enable contract farming of the cash crop. As a result, the central government plans to revise the Technology Mission on Cotton, which was launched in 2000 with the aim of improving yield and quality of domestic cotton, but missed both the provisions.
