Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has written to the Centre seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation against five companies for allegedly producing and selling Bt cotton seeds carrying unapproved herbicide-tolerant genes. Sale of Bt cotton seeds carrying herbicide-tolerant genes is in violation of The Environment Protection Act, 1986.
