US Department of Agriculture Foreign Agriculture Services has estimated Pakistan sugar production in 2017-18 (Oct-Sep) at a record high of 6 million tonne because of better procurement prices in the country. Sugarcane production in Pakistan in 2017-18 is also seen at a record high of 72 million tonne. Owing to the lower production of the commodity in India, the government has allowed the import of 500,000 tonne of raw sugar at zero duty by Jun 12.
