About 160,000 ha rice area destroyed in Thailand floods.

Floods in the northeast region of Thailand have destroyed nearly 160,000 ha of rice plantation in the country. The damage is unlikely to have any severe effect on the production and exports of rice from the country. Floods have damaged the area under glutinous rice which contributes 10-20% of total area of rice in Thailand. The floods are expected to support the rise in Thai rice prices as global demand remains strong.
