Australia’s Chickpea Exports Surge in October: Australia’s chickpea exports experienced a significant boost in October, with shipments reaching 109,622 metric tons (MT), a dramatic rise from the 25,692 MT recorded in September, according to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics. India led the demand, purchasing 82,418 MT, solidifying its position as the largest buyer of Australian chickpeas. Pakistan followed with 14,384 MT, while Bangladesh imported 3,498 MT. Despite the October surge, overall chickpea exports for the marketing year have totaled 527,698 MT, reflecting a 24% decline compared to the previous year. The drop underscores challenges in production and market dynamics, even as demand from key buyers remains robust.
