Farmers in the country have sown bajra over 9,600 ha so far in the rabi season, up from 5,200 ha a year ago. The higher acreage is due to farmers shifting to bajra from water-intensive crops such as wheat and mustard. The sowing has so far only started in Tamil Nadu and Andhra, with the former accounting for a maximum share of the acreage. In Tamil Nadu, bajra acreage was at 9,500 ha, up from 5,200 ha a year ago.
