Bangladesh government has raised the price for boro paddy procurement in 2018-19 by 2 Bangladeshi taka (1 Bangladeshi taka = 0.78 rupees) per kg, and boro rice by 4 taka per kg. The government will buy boro paddy at 26 taka per kg, and boro rice at 38 taka per kg. Boro rice is harvested during Mar-Apr and the government will make purchases from May 2 to Aug 31. Bangladesh is among major importers of non-basmati rice from India. In 2017-18 (Apr-Mar), India’s exports to the neighbouring nation topped 1 mln tn.
