The ripples of the floods in neighbouring Bangladesh that devastated paddy fields over thousands of hectares in April are still being felt in eastern India’s rice markets. In West Bengal, rice prices have shot up by an average 13-15% over the last month due to a rise in demand from Bangladesh and prices could rise further as orders from the neighbouring country continue in the near term.
