Floods in Bihar have damaged nearly 30,000-40,000 tn of maize stored in godowns and warehouses. A total of nearly 200,000 tn grain from the rabi crop is stored in warehouses in the state. Some warehouses are still submerged so actual damage would be assessed only when water recedes. Maize stocks in Purnea, Araria, Kishangarh, Khagariya, Katiyar are worst hit. Following the floods, farmers and traders have started liquidating their supplies and prices are falling now.
