Brazil’s corn exports in the year started February are estimated to fall by 12% on year to 30.0 mln tn. The exports are seen lower as Brazilian corn output is likely to fall by over 8% from a year ago. Corn output in the country is seen lower as many farmers switched from the grain to other profitable and easy to grow crops, such as soybean. In Brazil, corn is grown in two seasons–summer and winter. The planting for winter crop is underway and the harvest will take place by March. The summer crop is grown from October to December. The South American country is among the major corn exporters of the world. India, which used to export corn to global markets two-to-three years ago, is also striving to enter the global corn markets again. The country is expected to harvest nearly 6 mln tn of maize crop in the rabi season this year, up 0.5 mln tn from a year ago. Corn supplies in the country are high and a supply deficit from Brazil may open new export opportunities for India.
