Brazil’s corn production will drop by almost 17 percent in the 2017/18 crop cycle, reflecting a reduction in estimated planted area and lower prices for the grain. Corn output will total 90.52 MMT compared with a Safras estimate of 108.87 MMT for production in the 2016/17 crop season. Safras said planted area will fall 12.8 percent this season to 16.09 million hectares. Last year, the area planted with corn in Brazil was 18.45 million hectares. In September, Safras forecast Brazilian farmers would harvest 93.6 million of corn.
