Bulgaria has harvested 2.31 million tonnes of maize from this year’s crop by December 7, up 3.9% compared to the year-ago figure. Maize from 399,279 hectares, or 95.5% of the total area sown with the plant, was already harvested, the ministry said in a statement last week. Despite a drop in the total area put under maize compared to last year, the total harvest rose due to a 10.1% increase in the average yield. Bulgaria has also harvested 1.84 million tonnes of sunflower seed, 8.2% more than a year ago, from 807,689 ha, or 99.7% of the total area sown with sunflower.
