Cargill head says new MSP may push wheat acreage higher this year.

Wheat acreage in the country may cross last year’s record high level as the current minimum support price will encourage farmers. See at this stage, basic thing is there is no reason why wheat acreage would fall as wheat prices have been good, and government has changed the MSP, trying to increase the duty, so there is every support for wheat acreage to go up now whether it actually does or not time will tell but all the factors are in the favour of it going up. In 2016-17 (Jul-Jun), India’s wheat acreage touched a record 31.8 mln ha after the country received near-normal monsoon rains.
