Centre may hike MSP of oilseed by 400 rupee/100 kg.

In a bid to resolve unrest among farmers, govt may raise MSP of oilseeds by 400 rupees per 100 kg, said Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh. Farmers in Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, have been agitating over low prices of their produce and lack of adequate purchasing arrangements by govt. The protests have spilled over to Maharshtra and a few other states as well. The minister is scheduled officials from seed industry for reduction in prices to bring down the cost of cultivation. Union Cabinet approved interest subvention scheme for farmers, to help them avail crop loans of up to 0.3 mln rupees for one year at 4% interest during 2017-18 (Apr-Mar).
