Centre South Brazil June 1-15 sugar output doubles YoY to 2.38 mln tn.

Mills in Brazil Centre-South region produced 2.38 mln tn sugar during the first fortnight of June, up 97.8% from 1.20 mln tn produced a year ago. The sugar season in Brazil, the largest producer and exporter of the sweetener, runs from April to March. Mills in the Centre-South region crush cane till October. Mills in the region, which accounts for over 90% of Brazil’s total sugar output, crushed 39.41 mln tn of sugarcane during Jun 1-15, up 51.7% on year. Between April 1 and June 15, mills have crushed 151.25 mln tn of cane, down 9.6% on year. In the same period, they produced 8.07 mln tn of sugar, down 1.7% on year. Sugar produced in the first half of June higher because of mostly dry weather in the Centre South region. However, the season harvest is still lagging as compared to last season. Mills in the region are likely to produce 35.2 mln tn of sugar this season as compared to 35.6 mln tn in 2016-17 (Apr-Mar).
