China lifts import ban on wheat from 6 Russia regions.

China has lifted ban on import of wheat from six Russian regions, thereby abolishing the quarantine requirement of 2016. The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine has lifted ban on imports of wheat from Russia’s Novosibirsk, Amur, Chelybinsk, Omsk, Kranoyarsk, and Altai regions. Russia’s wheat output in 2017-18 is seen at a record high of 85 mln tn. The country is expected to export nearly 36 mln tn wheat this year. Higher wheat exports from Russia would result in a fall in global wheat prices and cheaper imports for India.
