Cooperative body sees sugar prices rising on cane fair price hike.

The retail price of sugar is likely to rise in the coming days as the govt raised the fair and remunerative price of sugarcane for 2017-18 (Oct-Sep). The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved nearly 11% hike in the fair and remunerative price of sugarcane to 255 rupees per 100 kg linked to a basic recovery rate of 9.5%. For each 0.1% increase in recovery rate over and above 9.5%, the fair and remunerative price would be increased by 2.68 rupees per 100 kg. This rise in raw material is bound to push up the cost of production of sugar and thereby the retail price of sugar may show increase in the coming days.
