FAO ups 2017-18 global wheat output estimate by 2 MMT to 754.8 MMT.

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has increased its forecast for global wheat production in 2017-18 to 754.8 mln tn, up 2.0 mln tn from its forecast last month. The rise in overall estimate is largely due to an upward revision in forecast for output in the EU, which offset a cut for Argentina’s production. Global wheat output, however, is still seen nearly 1% lower than a year ago. The FAO has increased its estimate for wheat utilisation in 2017-18 to 739.9 mln tn, slightly higher than a month ago. Wheat consumption for food usage in 2017-18 is seen at an all-time high of 504 mln tn. The forecast for ending stocks of wheat in 2017-18 has been reduced to 257.0 mln tn from 258.2 mln tn last month
