Farm ministry to meet CMs, NITI Aayog to ensure farmers get MSP.

The farm ministry is likely to hold a meeting with all chief ministers and the NITI Aayog in a fortnight to devise a mechanism for ensuring farmers get minimum support price. The government has declared minimum support price of the crops and it is important to ensure that the farmers are getting them. In the Union Budget on Feb 1, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced minimum support price for crops should be at least 1.5 times their production cost. Keeping this in mind, the government had urged NITI Aayog to consult central and state governments and put in place a mechanism to ensure fair returns to farmers if market prices fall below the support price and the government is unable to procure.
