Floods may cause a loss of Argentina 70,000 hectares of wheat area.

Flooding over last weekend in Argentina could cause a loss of 70,000 hectares of wheat plantings, out of a total 5.35 million hectares planted with the grain in the 2017-18 season. The losses would come on top of a previously reported 80,000 hectares of wheat plantings lost due to excessive rains last month. Although the state of the roads and excess water prevents access to many areas that need to be evaluated, total tentative losses would reach 150,000 hectares for the 2017-18 campaign. On top of that, there are 150,000 hectares that is not planted at all due to flooding at the start of the season, bringing total flood-related losses to 300,000 hectares.
