Global coffee body ups 2016-17 crop view to 154 mln bags from 152 mln.

The International Coffee Organization has raised its estimate for global production to 153.9 mln bags (1 bag = 60 kg) for 2016-17 from the previous estimate of 151.6 mln bags. The global coffee output is likely to be 1.5% higher on year and touch a record production. Of the total output, the Arabica crop is seen at 97.3 mln bags, up 10.2% on year, while Robusta crop is likely to fall 10.6% to 56.6 mln bags. The rise in estimates can be attributed to an increase in output from Indonesia and a significant revision of the Peru crop. Indonesia’s estimated crop was revised to 11.5 mln bags, up from their previous estimate of 10 mln bags.
