Global sugar body sees 3-mln-tn surplus in 2017-18.

International Sugar Organisation has forecast a surplus of 3 mln tn for the global sugar market in 2017-18 (Oct-Sep) due to expectation of bumper output in the season, largely boosted by Brazil. South growing region of Brazil, the proportion of sugarcane that is turned into sugar is set to increase to 48%, following a figure of 46.3% LY. The world sugar body also warned of another year of surplus in 2018-19 if producers do not scale back their production.
