Govt procures 1.05 mln tn of wheat in FY19 so far, 13% lower on year.

The government has procured 1.05 mln tn wheat so far in the marketing year that started on Apr 1, down 13.1% from the purchases in the same period a year ago. The government is procuring wheat from farmers at the minimum support price of 1,735 rupees per 100 kg, against the price of 1,625 rupees a year ago. The higher support price has resulted in more procurement at most producing regions except in Madhya Pradesh. In Haryana, a major contributor to the government’s wheat procurement drive, 137,028 tn of the grain has been bought so far, up from 47,639 tn a year ago.
