The government sold 1.8 MMT wheat to state governments in October under the National Food Security Act. The offtake was lower than the allocated quantity of 2.0 MMT. Of the total sales, 50,519 MT wheat was sold as a tide over. If the allocation to states under the National Food Security Act is lesser than what they were getting under Targeted Public Distribution System, Centre compensates by giving an additional quantity as tide over.
