The Cotton Advisory Board, in its second meeting, cut Karnataka’s production estimate for the year ending September to 1.8 mln bales (1 bale = 170 kg) due to a sharp fall in yield after drought in the state. In October 2016, the board had projected cotton production for the state at 2.1 mln bales. Cotton yields in Karnataka is estimated to fall to 603.6 kg per ha in 2016-17 (Oct-Sep), compared with 769.4 kg per ha.
