Govt sharply hikes inspection fee for pulses imports.

Govt has sharply increased the fee charged for phytosanitary inspection of imported pulses, making import of many commodities costlier. The plant quarantine authority will now charge for pulses inspection fee 4,000 rupees for the first tonne, and 1,500 rupees for each subsequent tonne, compared to 2,500 rupees and 50 rupees earlier. The higher inspection fee is likely to add $20-$30 a tonne to the import cost of wheat and pulses.
