Govt source says EU unlikely to ease tricyclazole norm for basmati.

European Union is unlikely to ease tricyclazole tolerance norms for basmati. Official vehemently placed this demand in G-20 meeting last year, also sought Germany help and raising this issue on all forums but EU is unlikely to agree as then it would have to give relaxation to other nations as well. The exports to EU could be shifted to gulf countries as they also pay good price for Indian basmati. India exports about 350,000 tn of basmati to EU every year. The European Union, one of the high-value buyers of Indian basmati, has reduced the permissible limit of tricyclazole residue in imported rice to 0.01 parts per mln with effect from Jan 1, 2018, from 1 part per mln now. Tricyclazole is a fungicide is used extensively in India to prevent leaf blast and neck blast in Pusa Basmati 1 and Pusa Basmati 1401–two of the most widely consumed basmati rice varieties in the EU.
