The Open Market Sales Scheme (Domestic) (OMSS-D) 2024 will see the government to sell 2.5 million tonnes of wheat to control open market wheat prices. According to a government release on November 28, 2024, the Food Corporation of India (FCI) has been instructed by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution to offload 2.5 million tonnes of wheat and sell it through electronic auctions, focusing on flour mills, wheat product manufacturers, processors, and other end users. The action was taken in response to growing worries about inflationary pressures in the food economy, especially as retail wheat prices are still high. A reserve price of 23,250 INR/Tonne for fair average quality (FAQ) wheat and 23,000 INR/tonne for under relaxed standards (URS) wheat has been established by the Department of Food and Public Distribution in its updated OMSS(D) policy for 2024, according to the statement. Until March 31, 2025, these rates will be in force for all wheat crops, including those grown during the Rabi marketing season (RMS) of 2024–2025. (Source-MSN.Com)
