The government’s wheat procurement drive has almost reached the target for the 2018-19 marketing year ending Mar, as 31.9 MMT bought as of 14 May. The procurement was 15.6% higher than a year ago. For 2018-19, the government is aiming to procure 32.0 mln tn wheat in the current marketing year, against 30.8 mln tn purchased a year ago. The higher procurement this year may be attributed to an increase in the minimum support price.
