Govt wheat sales via OMSS remain weak at 193,000 MT.

Govt open market sales of wheat continue to remain dull, with only 10,900 tn being sold across the country in the tenders that closed on 31 aug. Among the procuring states, the tenders in Haryana got a response for the first time in this Apr-Mar season, and 500 tn wheat was sold to a private party in the state, the official said. The government sold 100 tn wheat in Punjab this week. In West Bengal, 8,400 tn was purchased by the state government, and in Assam, private parties bought 1,600 tn of wheat this week. Overall, the government has sold 192,900 tn wheat so far in the marketing year started April, the official said. Government wheat sales are weak this year as stocks in the domestic market are sufficient following a bumper harvest in 2016-17 (Jul-Jun), and also due to cheap imports.
