Govt’s open market wheat sale slows to 32,850 tn since July 1.

Government’s wheat sales under the open market sale scheme have slowed to 32,850 tn so far in July, from 115,000 tn in the whole of June, as spot market prices are below base price under the scheme. The response to government sales has been tepid due to high base price as market prices are below the government price. Govt has set the base price for wheat for open market sales scheme at 1,790 rupees per 100 kg for procuring states, and an additional cost equivalent to ex-Ludhiana freight for non-procuring regions. Govt has so far floated three tenders on each Thursday of the month. Among procuring states, Punjab bought 1,300 tn of the grain while response from other regions is muted.
