The Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) lifted its expectation for its corn crop to 86.1 million mt and soy crop to 113.2 million mt for the 2017/18 crop year, as it saw yield increasing following beneficial weather. The institute lowered its expectation slightly for the first crop to 26.5 million mt, but lifted its expectation for the larger second crop to 59.7 MMT. IBGE’s projected corn production remains, however, on the lower end of similar analyst forecasts, with Conab’s forecast coming in at 87.3 million mt, while the USDA expects 94.5 MMT. Beneficial rains had the largest impact in the states of Parana and Goias, IBGE said, which increased yields and put their total production at 20.3 MMT, up 2% to last month.
