IGC cuts India 2017-18 rice output estimate by 1 MMT to 108 MMT.

International Grains Council has trimmed estimate for India’s rice output for 2017-18 by 1 MMT to 108 MMT. The cut in output estimate has been attributed to weak and erratic monsoon rains in the country. The cut in India’s rice production estimate also reflects the fall in global rice output, which the council has pegged at 481.8 mln tn, down from 482.7 mln tn estimated a month ago. The council has also reduced its estimate for rice consumption in 2017-18 to 484.6 MMT from 486.2 MMT in previous month.
