IGC cuts India FY18 wheat import view to 2.8 mln tn.

International Grains Council has cut its estimate for India’s wheat imports in 2017-18 (Apr-Mar) to 2.8 mln tn, from 3.5 mln tn projected in November. India’s wheat imports came to a halt after the government doubled import duty on the grain to 20% as there were ample supplies after a record crop in 2016-17 (Jul-Jun). The council, however, expects India to be a larger importer of wheat in 2018-19. India’s wheat supplies in 2018-19 (Apr-Mar) may take a hit due to lower acreage in the ongoing rabi season.
