India Apr-May cotton yarn exports dn at 130 mln kg vs 199 mln yr ago.

Export of cotton yarn fell in Apr-May to 130.0 mln kg from 198.5 mln kg in the year-ago period. The decline in exports was largely due to weak rupee and low demand from China. While Chairman of the Cotton Advisory Board Kavita Gupta declined to give any reason for the sharp fall in exports of yarn, it is due to India’s overdependence on China and failure to find new markets in the past couple of years. Firming rupee and weak demand from China in last couple of years has been hitting Indian cotton yarn exports.
