India Apr-Nov basmati exports rise 1.7% on year to 2.6 MMT.

India’s basmati exports in Apr-Nov rose a marginal 1.7% on year to 2.6 mln tn. The rise in basmati exports is largely due to competitive prices of the Indian grain and higher demand from south Asian countries. Exports of non-basmati rice rose 35.3% on year to 5.6 mln tn, mainly due to firm demand from Bangladesh. Bangladesh’s rice imports in Jul-Dec hit a 20-year high of 2.26 mln tn, after flash floods earlier this year washed away the country’s rice crop and damaged stock.
