India govt sells 2 MMT wheat to states in June under food security law.

The Centre sold 2.0 mln tn wheat to state governments in June under the National Food Security Act. The offtake was slightly higher than the allocated quantity of 1.99 mln as the validity of allocation was extended for one month for some states. If state governments demand, Food Corp of India has the authority to give them an extension on their offtake. Of the total quantity sold, 55,839 tn wheat was allocated as a tide over. If the allocation to states under the national food security act is lesser than what they are getting under targeted PDS, centre compensates by giving an additional quantity as tide over.
