Price of maize in Davangere, Karnataka, were steady at 1,100-1,400 rupees per 100 kg, depending on the quality. Earlier this month, arrivals of the new kharif maize crop had started in the state, with the moisture content in the crop at 28-30%. At 18-20%, the moisture content is still high, against the desirable level of 14-15%. It would take at least two more weeks for the moisture content in the new crop to fall to the required level. Karnataka is the leading grower of kharif maize in the country. The state has pegged production of maize in the 2018-19 kharif season at 3.5 mln tn, up 26.1% from the previous year.
