Due to the global trade disruption caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, India is developing a strategy to increase wheat exports to an all-time high of 21 million tonnes (MT) in fiscal year 2022-23. The national transporter, Indian Railways, plays a critical role in easing the transportation of wheat to ports for export. While the global wheat market is hovering around 206 million tonnes, India only exported roughly 7 million tonnes in 2021-22. India exported 2.1 million tonnes of wheat in 2020-21.
